Event Rules
Format:
Races will consist of two Open races with an Average (side pot) and 3 optional side-pot groups within each race. The Open will all be paid off in a 5D format with ½ second splits. The Side Pots will be paid in a 4-D ½, ½, whole second split, (unless otherwise designated). Each contestant/horse combination that is entered in both Open races will be eligible to enter the average side pot.
Side Pots
Youth- Side-pot age group will consist of those 18 and under as of the first date of the event
Adult- Side-pot will consist of those 19-45, and the
Senior- Side-pot will consist of those over 45.
To be entered in a side-pot, contestants must first enter the Open. Each horse and rider combination makes one run in the Open race and their time is carried over to the appropriate side-pot group.
Futurity Side-Pot (WPRA Approved)
You do NOT have to be a WPRA member to enter
To accumulate WPRA points you must meet WPRA requirements.

WPRA membership and application forms will be accepted at each show. To nominate a horse for WPRA points you must meet all WPRA requirements
All futurity entries must be 5 years or younger
The horse may have never competed for money, prizes, or points anytime before Dec 1st of the previous year.
Futurity Side Pot must have a min of 2 entries.
Futurity Side Pot will be a 2-D with whole second split (70%- 1D and 30%- 2D).
Entry fee is $50 with an 80% payback

Payout:
Open: 75% of entry fees (minus fees) and 100% of all added money will be paid out. Added money and money from entry fees shall be distributed between the divisions in the following manner: 5D Race- 1D 30%, 2D 25%, 3D 20%, 4D 15%, 5D 10% 4D Race and Side Pots- 1D 35%, 2D 30%, 3D 20%, 4D 15%.
The number of positions paid out per division will be determined by the number of entries.
Average: 70% of $25 entry fees collected from each entry and 100% of all added money will be paid out. The average payout will be a 5-D same percentages as the open barrel races. The number of positions paid out will depend on the total number of paid entries.
Side-pots: 75% of entry fees and 100% of any added money will be paid out. Percentages per division will be the same as the Open. The number of positions paid out per division will be determined by the number of entries.
WPRA Futurity side-pot will be paid out 80% of the total entry fee and 100% of any added money.
(Percent payouts may be adjusted to one day barrel races with $500 or less added money)
Entries & Draw:
Pre-entries will be accepted if post-marked date is before the cut-off date and do NOT send pre-entries certified mail. Please do not mail entries after this time to ensure they are received. Pre-entries will be drawn by randomly and UBR will do what we can to grant special request, but no guarantees can be promised. Contestants my also enter on-line for a small fee on www.ubr.fastenter.com (Visa, MasterCard, and pay pal excepted).
All fees can be paid with Visa, Master Card, or Discover (4% processing fee will be added). We will accept cash and checks at all our events.
Entries will be accepted at the event until the designated cut off time. Positions will be randomly drawn for those entering at the event.
A horse may only be entered one time per race, but a rider may enter more than one horse. No two riders may ride the same horse.
In the event a rider cannot compete in the second jackpot due to illness or injury, a substitute rider may compete on the horse and be eligible for the average. Any substitutions must be made and approved through the show office, prior to competition.
There will be a $50 charge on all returned checks and contestant will be on a cash only basis for a one year period. Since most of the races are BBR approved, contestants must also make their bad checks good before competing at another BBR approved founder event.
Exhibitions will be available for $5 per run on a first come, first served basis on the day of the event. Exhibitions will end at least 30 minutes prior to the start time of the race and anyone unable to take their paid exhibition before that time may use it during any exhibition session, but will need to be used before the end of the weekend.
Draw-Outs/Vet-Outs: Vet-outs will be allowed, but MUST be turned into the show office before the first horse runs. After the first horse runs NO REFUNDS will be granted. The vet out will only apply to the entry fee (80% of the ENTRY fees will be refunded) , all other fee including but not limited to stall fees, processing fees, etc. will not be refunded. Approved refunds will be mailed 10-14 days after the race has completed.
Competition Rules:
Dress Code: Dress code of a long sleeve shirt (no collar required), boots, and cowboy hat or helmet is to be worn during all competition runs at UBR events unless otherwise listed.
Fines & Disqualifications: All fines are to be paid in cash in the show office. Contestants with outstanding fines will not be allowed to compete until such time as the fines have been paid.
There will be a $10 fine for any exhibitions over 60 seconds and the fine must be paid before the contestant's next competition run.
Contestants entering more than one horse will incur a $50 fine for running horses in the incorrect position. The average will be paid off by horse & rider combinations, so each horse must be ran in the correct position.
There will be no circling beyond the mouth of the alley-way or a no-time will be assessed.
There will be a $50 fine for any contestant who runs out of turn.
No circling of barrels or training during competition runs. If the pattern is broken rider may complete the pattern from the point of the break in a timely fashion or exit the arena immediately. Failure to do so will result in a $25 fine payable before the contestant's next competition run.
No re-runs will be given if a horse falls, is pulled up by the rider or in the event of a rider's equipment malfunction.
There will be a $50 fine for making a competition run out of dress code.
No money will be paid out on runs incurring a penalty for hit barrels.
Inhumane treatment of animals:
Inhumane treatment of any horse or dog during any UBR events will NOT be tolerated. Anyone who excessively whips or strikes a horse's ears or face with anything other than the hand, either in the arena or on the facility grounds will be fined $100. Any individual who has been warned for such behavior and persists or refutes the warning shall be fined an additional $100.
Any rider caught using an electronic device on a horse during competition will be automatically disqualified and shall forfeit all winnings and fees paid.
Timer Malfunction: Two sets of electric eyes will be in use. In the event the primary timer fails to work, the back-up timer will be used. In the event that both timers fail a re-run will be awarded immediately, at the end of the next group of 50 with a fresh drag, or at the end of the event with a fresh drag at the contestant's discretion. The rider must declare if he/she will accept a re-run before the next horse runs.
The announcer will not indicate any malfunctions during a run. Any re-runs will carry over all penalties accumulated during the first run. The re-run will not accumulate any additional penalties other than those earned during the first run. If the contestant chooses not to re-run, he/she will receive a no time.
Awards:
You do not have to be present to receive awards, but awards will not be shipped. If a contestant has left the premises before collecting their awards he/she may either designate a person to pick up the awards for him/her or make arrangements to collect the awards at another event.
In the event of a tie for Average awards, the tie will be broken by the first race times. The contestant who ran the fastest time in the first race will receive the awards.
Any questions or disputes which may arise during a UBR production event not covered by the above rules will be decided and settled by Ultimate Barrel Racing, LLC management and all decisions will be final. UBR Management reserves the right to change or adjust any rules as deemed necessary .
UBR Management has the right to refuse entry to anyone at anytime for any reason. It will be the descretion of Ultimate Barrel Racing, LLC on all refund decisions. All decesions made by Ultimate Barrel Racing, LLC will be FINAL.
